ASUS eeePad Transformer reaches Malaysia

[slideshow id=1]

Update: ASUS eeePad Transformer is officially launching on May 18th 2011 in Malaysia.

ASUS has its little piece of cake in the Android phone world with their Garmin-Asus A10 and A50 smartphones, but this time, it looks like they are about to hit it BIG in the tablet scene. There is little doubt about ASUS’ experience in laptops and desktops and taking this experience to the table level is just the thing they needed to do. The word about Transformer is already filling the Android airspace and the enthusiasm is pretty high. For me at least, this is one device that has kept me from purchasing the buggy Motorola Xoom – which to me was not ready for its launching.

The Transformer is the second of several tablets from ASUS in 2011, with the first being the Eee Slate EP121 professional tablet PC. This transformer will be followed by a 3G version – the Eee Pad Slider and Eee Pad MeMo in the coming months. While the Eee Slate uses Windows 7 along with Intel Core i5 ULV mobile CPUs, the Eee Pads will be concentrating on Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) OS with ARM CPUs.

The transformer will feature a fully functional keyboard which extends the battery life to up to 16 hrs, features a Micro SD card slot, a whopping 178° viewing Angle, dual cameras with 5MPx rear camera and 1.2MPx front facing camera, Adobe Flash 10.2 support, Full HD Playback, SRS surround sound, GPS and waveshare. The list gets longer and longer but this is already exciting enough to get a tablet pumped up. The tablet itself, without the docking keyboard is 12.98mm slim and weighs approximately 680g.

The screen of the Transformer is bump and scratch resistant for the clumsy ones. That said, feel free to carry it in your backpack and forget about scratches on the screens. This brute screen is not something new in the Android world as it has been seen in several smartphones already. Carrying a tablet should be a worryless task and ASUS has done it right on this scale.

Another very interesting feature that the Transformer is bearing is the 10 fingers multi-touch input. This means, your Fruit Ninja and Piano applications are about to get a whole new experience on the Transformer. And with HDMI output, the possibilities are just endless. The SRS surround is another feature to look forward to. The 3D stereo enhancement improved dynamic audio experience and maximizes bass response from smaller speakers. With front facing camera, video calls are about to become even more interesting as well.

A little fact about the Eee Pads is that:

  • ALL EeePads will feature WiFi hardware
  • ALL EeePads will have GPS, eCompass, tilt sensor and gyro
  • 3G will be optional on the EeePads and they will be released soon in the future.

18th is the press release. So basically it should be on the shelves starting the next day. I am in discussions with ASUS to have a “special” sale on my blog whereby you guys can probably get the keyboard for free if you buy from my blog :D It wont be a lifetime sale of course, and like I said, this is still in discussions. Once I have the final word, I will have a blog post.

As for the Galaxys S Pro, we still have got no final word on it. Some sources said that one of our telco is bringing it in. However, another promising source said that it might not land in Malaysia at all. Currently there are mixed rumours and I can’t confirm that yet too.

Being an assistant director at the education ministry who goes to a lot of meeting doing presentations, develop graphic stuffs and doing data querries on the the run, I am very much interested in the eee Slate EP121. Any idea when it will reach Malaysia? Seems that I can’t even order it online via Amazon.

The Transformer is underpowered for what I intend to do with a tablet.

  29. shahz
#33 written by shahz  (7 years ago)

Yes it is already released. I have reviewed it too :)

  30. yaletech
#34 written by yaletech  (7 years ago)

Sorry to ask this. But where did you review the eee Slate EP121? I can’t find it on your site. I can only find review for the Slider and Transformer but not the Slate. Could you please direct me to the respective page since Asus Malaysia still haven’t got anything on the website.

    • Shahz
#35 written by Shahz  (7 years ago)

Ohh, I’m sorry, I got ocnfused with the Slider (EL101). Some of the ASUS sources told me that they might not bring in the Slate because Windows market is not huge among tablets.

You may want to wait for the upcoming Transformer though..That will be a Quad Core baby ;) I can’t reveal further details on that though due to agreement with ASUS.

  31. yaletech
#36 written by yaletech  (7 years ago)

Thanks. Guess I’ll have to get a friend to buy one for me over in the US or UK since Amazon does not ship outside US due to licensing or something. Maybe if they don’t want to introduce it here, they should let Amazon sell the thing internationally rather then limit it to just the US/UK. I don’t mind paying the delivery charges to ship it to Malaysia.

The thing that really interest me about the Slate is that it is using WACOM digitiser technology (Penable) which is important to me who have to design heavy graphic stuff and give presentation outside of the office. Using the Slate means I don’t have to carry around a graphic tablet and a notebook.

Maybe you can get the Asus people to carry out a survey in the digital art schools of our Universities. I’ll bet you’ll find a lot of budding artist who like to use something like the Slate.

    Anyway. Thanks for the info.
