So in the previous post, we had learnt about the GPT hard disk partition format, and formatted a 3TB disk. Today, let’s setup our fiber internet. We will be using the ASUS RT-AC66U router for this purpose. Nothing complex, just getting our internet up and running!

2013-10-09 23.14.51I really love ASUS products and there is no doubt about it. They make really cool hardware and their innovation gives you endless surprises. So I used to write reviews about their products with honest good and bad opinions of mine. But it seems like there are too many resources about that on the internet already which are written by some of the better writers than me. So instead of just writing about a product, I will actually share how to utilize it.

So today’s lesson is nothing complex really. We’re just going to setup our unifi on this RT-AC66U and get our internet running. I’ll include some of my personal best practices along with it so feel free to tweak it your own way.

Step 1 – Connecting and Initializing


Just hit the blue “Home” button at the top when you reach this page really.

Well, as always, this one is pretty simple. Just connect your internet cable to the only separated LAN port, and then pick a LAN port between port 1 – 3 (4 is for your TV Box) and hook it up to your computer. Now, fire up your admin console and just hit the skip button to go to the settings page. Don’t bother tinkering with the wizard really. Once you are in the admin console, enable the unifi option first. Go to LAN -> IPTV and select the unifi-home option. Refer to my screenshot:

Step 2 – Insert your telco settings

Set the WAN Connection type to PPPoE and disable the uPNP. At the bottom, fill up your unifi username and password, and hit apply. Refer to my screenshot:

Step 3 – Configure your Wi-Fi(s)

Now go to your Wi-Fi settings and fill up the settings as below. After applying, select the 2.4GHz frequency from the dropdown and do the same. Refer to both of my screenshots:

Step 4 – Disable WPS

Because you don’t really need it most of the time. “What’s your wi-fi password” is most likely more common than “Bro, can I hit the WPS button and synchronize my device with your wireless network?”. Refer to my screenshots:
